<p class="Help-Text">This physical inventory scanner is a hand-held, portable scanner that can be used to take and then upload physical inventory counts to Point of Sale.</p>
<p class="Help-Note"><span class="hcp1">Note</span>: This scanner uses a Lithium-ion battery. The scanner will display the battery status when inserted into the cradle. We recommend you fully charge the battery by leaving the scanner inserted in the cradle with the cradle plugged into a power source before beginning.</p>

<p class="Help-Info-Line">To install the physical inventory scanner:</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Make sure the Point of Sale installation disk is in your CD-ROM drive. (Cancel the Installation Wizard if it launches.)</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Launch Point of Sale.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Select <span class="hcp1">Hardware Setup Wizard</span> from the File menu.</p>

<p class="Help-Info-Line">To review or change your Windows COM Port Settings:</p>
<p class="Help-Text">Both Point of Sale and your Windows operating system must be configured so that both reflect the same COM port (communications port) setting for the physical inventory scanner.</p>
<p class="Help-Text">If your scanner doesn't work when you test it, you can use <a href="equip_configure_comports.htm">this procedure</a> to verify or select a COM port in Windows Device Manager and then make the same selection in Point of Sale workstation preferences as described below.</p>
<p class="Help-Info-Line">To review or change your preferences in Point of Sale for your scanner:</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">In Point of Sale, select <font class="hcp2">Preferences</font> <font style="font-family: 'Wingdings 3'; font-weight: bold;" face="Wingdings 3"></font> <font class="hcp2">Workstation</font> from the File menu.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Select <font class="hcp2">Physical Inventory Scanner</font> from the left-side menu.</p>

<li class="p-Help-Steps">
<p class="Help-Steps">Select <span class="hcp1">Metrologic SP5500 Optimus S (USB)</span> from the drop-down list in the Physical Inventory Scanner field.</p>
</li>
<li class="p-Help-Steps">
<p class="Help-Steps">Select the COM Port number that matches the COM Port you assigned to the scanner in Device Manager.</p>
</li>
<li class="p-Help-Steps">
<p class="Help-Steps">Use the test button at the bottom of the window to test the device.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Select <font class="hcp2">Save</font>.</p>
