<p class="Help-Text">If you collect sales tax, you must have sales tax turned on in your QuickBooks Desktop financial software, so that Point of Sale can send sales tax information.</p>

<p class="Help-Info-Line">To turn on the collection of sales tax in QuickBooks Desktop financial software:</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Start your QuickBooks Desktop financial software and open the company file which you are going to integrate with Point of Sale.</p>

<p class="Help-Text">If you prefer to set up your own QuickBooks Desktop sales tax items, or if you wish to use sales <a href="../qbpos_glossary_of_terms/glossarypage.htm#glossary_tax_group">tax groups</a> in QuickBooks Desktop to pay taxes to multiple agencies, define them in QuickBooks Desktop first. Then, when <a href="../qbpos_company_preferences/sysprefs08.htm">setting up sales tax codes in Point of Sale</a>, link them to the applicable tax items/groups you have set up in QuickBooks Desktop. <font style="font-style: italic;">Refer to your QuickBooks Desktop documentation and help files for more information about defining tax items and groups.</font></p>
