<p class="Help-Text">Point of Sale prompts you to convert company data from a previous version, if detected, when the program is first started on the Server Workstation. You can also use the second procedure below to convert previous version data at anytime in the future.</p>

<p class="Help-Note"><span class="hcp2">Note</span>: In a multi-workstation configuration, this feature is available only from the <a href="../qbpos_help_and_support/help_wstypes.htm">Server Workstation</a>.</p>
<p class="Help-Info-Line">To convert company data when prompted on initial startup:</p>
<ol>

<p class="Help-Steps">Answer <span class="hcp2">Y</span><font class="hcp1">es</font> to converting your prior version data when Point of Sale alerts you it has been detected.</p>

<li class="p-Help-Steps">
<p class="Help-Steps">Enter a unique name for the new company data file and select <span class="hcp2">OK</span>.</p>

<li class="p-Help-Steps">
<p class="Help-Steps">On the dialog displayed, confirm the location of the previous installation of Point of Sale and select <span class="hcp2">OK</span>.</p>

</ol>
<p class="Help-Indent">Alternatively, you can browse to a different location or specify that the conversion should be done from a backup file of previous data.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">If prompted, be sure all workstations have closed the previous version and then answer <span class="hcp2">Y</span><font class="hcp1">es</font> to continue with the conversion.</p>

</ol>
<p class="Help-Indent">Point of Sale copies the data files from the previous version and then converts the copied files to the current format. This process may take several minutes, as customer, vendor, and item histories are built. The total time required will vary with the size of your existing data file and hardware configuration. Your data files in the previous version are left unchanged in this process.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Select <span class="hcp2">OK</span> to close the import confirmation window when displayed.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">If you require employee logins, the Log In window is displayed. Use your previous version user name and password to log in to the program.</p>

<p class="Help-Info-Line">To convert company data from a previous version later:</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Close all <a href="../qbpos_basic_procedures/navigation_find/basic_openwindows.htm">open windows</a> and have all other workstations exit Point of Sale.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">From the File menu, select <span class="hcp2">C</span><font class="hcp1">ompany Operations</font>.</p>

<li class="p-Help-Steps">
<p class="Help-Steps">In the dialog displayed, select <span class="hcp2">C</span><font class="hcp1">onvert from previous version</font> and click <span class="hcp2">Next</span>.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Follow the prompts (same as above) to complete the conversion, identifying the location and version number of your previous installation when requested.</p>
