<p class="Help-Note">This information applies to users of the QuickBooks POS Merchant Service and the requirements for complying with the Payment Card Industry's Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) on credit and debit card transactions.</p>

<p class="Help-Text">If an unauthorized attempt to access your data has been made or you are aware of an actual breach of your security system that has compromised your and your customers data, you should immediately:</p>

<p class="Help-Steps"><a href="../qbpos_data_protection/backup01.htm">Backup</a> your data file and store the backup in a secure location.</p>

<li class="p-Help-Steps">
<p class="Help-Steps">If you suspect involvement by a specific user or users, disable the Windows user accounts and Point of Sale <a href="../qbpos_secadmin/secadmin04.htm">security rights</a>. This will block further access to your data by the user(s) while you have an opportunity to investigate.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Review the <a href="mas_pci_auditlog.htm">Audit Log</a> and Windows <a class="popupspot" href="JavaScript:hhctrl.TextPopup('Logs unsuccessful attempts to log in to Point of Sale. Accessible from Windows Control Panel &gt; Administrative Tools &gt; Event Viewer.','Arial,10',30,10,00000000,0xc0ffff)" style="color: #008000;">Event Log</a> to examine entries related to the suspicious activity and users.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Change your Windows and Point of Sale administrator passwords. It is recommended you also change, or require to be changed, all other user passwords.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Manually <a href="mas_generate_EFT_keys.htm">generate new credit card encryption keys</a>.</p>
