<p class="Help-Heading-2">Recommended Design Sequence and Tips</p>
<p class="Help-Text">There are no hard and fast rules for the order in which you must modify document <a href="../qbpos_glossary_of_terms/glossarypage.htm#glossary_template">templates</a>, but you may find this recommended sequence and associated tips helpful in achieving the desired outcome in the most efficient manner.</p>

<li class="p-Help-Steps">
<p class="Help-Steps"><a href="printdesigner_selectdoc.htm">Select</a> a template to modify.</p>
</li>
<li class="p-Help-Steps">
<p class="Help-Steps">Click anywhere in the <a href="printdesigner_sections.htm">section</a> in which you want to work to make it active. This step is unnecessary on tag and label templates as they have only a single section.</p>
</li>
<li class="p-Help-Steps">
<p class="Help-Steps"><a href="printdesigner_deleteelements.htm">Remove</a> the <a href="../qbpos_glossary_of_terms/glossarypage.htm#glossary_element">elements</a> that you do not wish included on the printed document.</p>

<p class="Help-Nested-List">This helps create space for adding other fields or moving fields around</p>

<p class="Help-Nested-List">Use the <span class="hcp1">Z</span><font class="hcp2">oom In/Out</font> controls from the toolbar to make selecting and working with individual elements easier</p>

<p class="Help-Nested-List">If additional space is needed while working in a section, drag the bottom section border downward</p>

<p class="Help-Steps"><a href="printdesigner_addfields.htm">Add</a> data fields and other new elements as needed, <a href="printdesigner_moveandalign.htm">positioning</a> them in their approximate location by dragging-and-dropping.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps"><a href="printdesigner_resize.htm">Resize</a> elements and make any necessary changes to element <a href="printdesigner_properties.htm">properties</a>.</p>

<p class="Help-Nested-List">Select <span class="hcp1">P</span><font class="hcp2">review</font> from the toolbar to see how your changes will look as you progress. The previewer allows you to view, save, or print your template.</p>

<p class="Help-Nested-List">We recommend saving your work if you are satisfied with the preview (select <span class="hcp1">S</span><font class="hcp2">ave As</font> if you want to give your modified template a different name, thus preserving the original template).</p>

<p class="Help-Nested-List">Make a mistake? Select <span class="hcp1">U</span><font class="hcp2">ndo</font> from the toolbar. You can undo the last several actions taken since your last save. Each save clears the Undo memory.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Use the <a href="printdesigner_moveandalign.htm">alignment</a> tools to precisely place elements in their final position, working from the top of a section downward.</p>

<p class="Help-Nested-List">Select multiple elements by holding down <span class="hcp1">&lt;Ctrl&gt;</span> or &lt;<span class="hcp1">Shift&gt;</span> and clicking each, or by dragging the mouse pointer to encompass all elements to be selected</p>

<p class="Help-Nested-List">Use your keyboard arrow keys to move an element in small increments, or <span class="hcp1">&lt;Ctrl + arrow keys&gt;</span> to move at 10X the increment</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Remove any extra white space at the bottom of the section by dragging the bottom border upward.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Do a final preview, test print, and then save your template.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">If you created a new template, answer <span class="hcp1">Yes</span> when asked if you want the new template to be the default for that document type. You can also change templates at anytime in your <a href="../qbpos_basic_procedures/printing/basic292.htm">print option</a> preferences.</p>

<p class="Help-Nested-List">Use the <a href="printdesigner_importexport.htm">import-export</a> feature to share the new template with other stores or to move the template to another company data file.</p>
