<p class="Help-Text">It is strongly recommended that you use the <a href="../qbpos_equipment/equip_hwsetupwiz.htm">Hardware Setup Wizard</a> to configure your Point of Sale hardware. You can access the setup wizard from the File menu and from individual hardware preferences pages.</p>

<p class="Help-Indent">In the <font class="hcp2">Connected to</font> field, select the port the pole display is connected to (a serial port, which is also called a COM port, or a USB port).</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">In the <font class="hcp2">Message Displayed Between Sales</font> area, enter text in Line 1 and/or Line 2 and select an alignment option from the drop-down lists. The display will accommodate up to 20 fixed characters per line or 50 scrolling characters if you select <span class="hcp1">S</span><font class="hcp2">croll</font> in the Alignment field.</p>

<p class="Help-Steps">Select an option for the <font class="hcp2">Message Displayed During Sales</font>. Your choice is reflected in the Example window.</p>

<p class="Help-Bulleted">If you are using a serial connection and the pole display does not display information after this procedure, re-enter Workstation preferences and try a different port connection, e.g. if you initially selected <span class="hcp1">COM</span> <font class="hcp2">1</font>, change the setting to <span class="hcp1">COM</span> <font class="hcp2">2</font> and test again. Repeat this procedure until the pole display functions correctly (or use <a href="../qbpos_equipment/equip_configure_comports.htm">this procedure</a> to verify the port assigned in Windows <a href="../qbpos_glossary_of_terms/glossarypage.htm#glossary_devicemanger">Device Manager</a> and then select the matching port in workstation preferences).</p>

<p class="Help-Bulleted">If you are using a serial connection and <font color="#292526">you have an internal modem,</font> <font color="#292526">the modem</font> <font color="#292526">may be assigned to one of your serial ports, causing a conflict if the pole display is plugged into the same port. If your pole display still does not work, try plugging the pole display into another serial port. Repeat the steps above until you have identified the right combination of physical port and serial port setting that results in the pole display working.</font></p>
