HOW TO DISABLE LOCALHOST ON WINDOWS
|
|

|
|
|
|
On your WINDOWS machine, open PowerShell as Administrator:
|
|
(Right-click Start Menu → Windows PowerShell (Admin))
|
|
|
|
Then run these commands:
|
|
|
|

|
|
STEP 1: Stop IIS (if installed)
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
|
|
iisreset /stop
|
|
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
STEP 2: Disable IIS from starting automatically
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
|
|
Set-Service -Name W3SVC -StartupType Disabled
|
|
Set-Service -Name WAS -StartupType Disabled
|
|
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
STEP 3: Stop Apache/XAMPP/WAMP (if installed)
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
|
|
net stop Apache2.4
|
|
# OR
|
|
net stop wampapache64
|
|
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
STEP 4: Check what's running on port 80
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
|
|
netstat -ano | findstr :80
|
|
|
|
# This will show you what's using port 80
|
|
# Look for the PID (last number in the line)
|
|
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
STEP 5: Kill the process using port 80
|
|

|
|
|
|
# Replace XXXX with the PID from Step 4
|
|
taskkill /PID XXXX /F
|
|
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
ALTERNATIVE: Use GUI
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
|
|
1. Press Windows + R
|
|
2. Type: services.msc
|
|
3. Press Enter
|
|
4. Find these services and STOP + DISABLE them:
|
|
- World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC)
|
|
- Windows Process Activation Service (WAS)
|
|
- Apache2.4 (if exists)
|
|
|
|
Right-click each → Stop
|
|
Right-click each → Properties → Startup type: Disabled → OK
|
|
|
|

AFTER DISABLING:
|
|
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
|
|
|
|
In Firefox, go to:
|
|
http://localhost:5000/
|
|
|
|
This will now connect to your Linux server!
|
|
|
